    ABW复合外墙外保温技术是中国建筑材料科学研究院开发的一种专用于建筑外墙外侧现场施工复合保温层的新技术（该项目属受国家经贸委支助的国家级技术创新项目）。该技术克服了目前市场上现有墙体外保温层经常出现的耐久性不好、易产生干缩裂缝以及施工工艺复杂等缺点。符合《民用建筑节能设计标准（采暖居住建筑部分）》JGJ26-95规定的达到建筑节能50%时对墙体保温的新要求，并达到了九十年代国际先进水平。ABW复合外墙外保温技术包括粘结材料、保温材料、纤维增强材料、专用罩面聚合物砂浆、装饰材料以及其它配套材料的配制（或选用）技术与现场施工技术等多项内容。中国建筑材料科学研究院通过对复合外墙外保温用材料与施工技术的研究开发，已成为复合外墙外保温专用材料的生产或选型、工程服务和技术转让一条龙的生产服务基地。
